This year, the annual British Society of Criminology Annual Conference is being hosted by the Department of Sociology and the Centre for Criminology at the University of Surrey, in Guildford, Surrey.
This will be the first major face-to-face criminology conference in Europe for some time and we are very excited about welcoming you to the University and Guildford.
Our conference will allow us to critically engage with research, debates, and perspectives within contemporary criminology during a time of rapid social and economic change. The conference will deal with themes such as developments in science and technology, understanding crime futures, adjustments in criminal justice policy, perspectives on global crises, among other topics. Whatever it is that interests you this conference will provide you with a platform to debate and critically engage with a theme of your choice. The conference will bring together academics and policymakers from diverse backgrounds to talk about and share ideas on issues in criminology today.
The conference will be held at the University of Surrey: a world-class, research-led university which itself seeks to answer global challenges, drive innovation, and deliver real-world impact. Our campus is situated in Guildford where there is a wide range of things to do and see, and the town centre is only a 15-minute walk from the University, making everything accessible. Whether you want to take a look around the town, have a bite to eat or drink in one of the large number of pubs, cafes and restaurants in the area, or simply take a stroll through the beautiful Chapel Street to take a look at the castle which dates back to 1300, Guildford has it all. There are three shopping centres in the town as well as a number of shops on the high street, which means there are a range of places to choose from and you could spend hours browsing around all of the shops.

The Stag Hill campus itself is well worth exploring due to its beautiful grounds which you can walk around or simply sit on one of the benches to enjoy the view. During the summer the lake makes a perfect place for individuals and groups to sit, enjoying the weather and a bite to eat.

The University is easily accessible with great transport links by train, coach or even plane. Guildford is located between London Waterloo and Portsmouth with train services that run every half hour. Coaches from National Express are available which offer a short walk to the University after dropping passengers off. Finding accommodation in Guildford is made easy due to the number of hotels and BnBs available, which are within walking distance to everything and are close to the town centre.
We very much look forward to welcoming you in June. More information can be found on our website https://bsc2022.co.uk/ or email us on bscconference@surrey.ac.uk.
