Sustainability statement

The British Society of Criminology and the University of Surrey are committed to minimising the environmental footprint of the 2022 annual conference.

The University is committed to becoming a Net Zero University by 2030 and already has policies in place to keep waste and carbon emissions to a minimum – see Sustainability | University of Surrey

Reducing Waste

All University of Surrey catering outlets aim to minimise packaging and where possible utilise compostable materials.

We will not be printing conference programmes and printing in general will be kept to a minimum. All conference details will be available on the website.

We would encourage participants to bring a reusable water bottle and cup to reduce the use of single use plastics.

All the food served at the conference dinner will be vegan/vegetarian, as will all breakfasts served to those in University accommodation.

We would encourage all participants to travel to the conference in as sustainable a way as possible, utilising public transport and where possible avoiding flying.

The University of Surrey has great transport links to the rest of the UK. The main Stag Hill campus (where the conference is taking place) is a 15-minute walk from Guildford railway station. The Manor Park Campus (where many delegates are staying) is approximately 30 minutes’ walk from the station. Alternatively, there is a regular bus (numbers 1 & 2) every 15 mins, which runs from the train station to both the Stag Hill and Manor Park campuses. To get the bus exit the station onto Guildford Park Road, the bus stop is directly opposite the exit.

Once you are at the University, it is a 15-minute walk between the Stag Hill and Manor Park campuses, alternatively the bus runs every 15 minutes between 5am and 11.30pm.
